Patient Care
- Carotid Artery Disease: Duke offers the full spectrum of treatment options for patients with cervical and intracranial carotid artery disease. Treatments include risk factor management, stroke prevention and treatment, carotid artery stenting, coiling and stenting of intracranial lesions, catheter directed thrombolysis for acute stroke, and surgical reconstruction under local and general anesthesia.
- Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms: The full spectrum of therapies for abdominal aortic aneurysms is available at Duke including extensive endovascular options, and experienced surgical team for open repair, and advanced imaging equipment such as Intravascular Ultrasound.
- Lower Extremity Arterial Disease: At Duke we have a wide variety of options for patients with critical and non-critical limb ischemia. A cutting edge medical team provides experimental therapies involving gene therapy and angiogenesis in patients with CLI; advanced endovascular procedures such as atherectomy of medium and small vessels are available, as well as conventional therpaies such as angioplasty, stenting, and lower extremity bypass.
- Venous Disease: At Duke we have a team approach to venous disease including a Wound Center for patients with chronic non-operative wounds, a full array of endovenous (minimally invasive) therapies for varicose veins and ulcers, and cosmetic services for spider veins.
- Dialysis Access: Our team of surgeons, interventionalists, sonographers, and nephrologists provide cutting edge care to the dialysis patient. Treatments are based on the DOQI guidelines and use autogenous grafts whenever possible. Graft longevity is prolonged by a multidisciplinary approach to the occluded dialysis graft. Use of indwelling catheters is kept to a minimum by advanced planning of dialysis graft placement. Duke is a leader in experimental methods of reducing intimal hyperplasia using gene therapy.
- Renal and Visceral Artery Stenosis: Duke offers the full spectrum of endovascular and surgical options for these lesions.
- Thoracic and Thoracoabdominal Aneurysms: Our experienced, multidisciplinary team provides cutting edge care to patinets with complex thoracic aortic pathology including endovascular thoracic aneurysm repair, endovascular aneurysm repair with debranching procedures, and open throacoabdominal aneurysm repair with a dedicated anethesia team, peri-operative visceral perfusion, and spinal drainage.
